Grand Teton NP (continued) Fault Line (Peter is pointing at) represents a shift of circa 120 foot of earthquake movement!! A very big earthquake indeed!
Jenny Lake View We took a boat trip on Jackson Lake (next to Jenny Lake) from Colter Bay (a manmade bay developed in the 1960's); Jackson Lake has been raised 39 feet above its original level by Idaho farmers with an earthen dam starting in 1916 - there had been a wooden dam in 1906 but it failed. Thus, even though it is a National Park, the top 39 feet of water in Jackson Lake belong to a farmers group. When they draw down the water in the summer, Colter Bay (where we stayed) goes dry as it is only 20 feet deep!! Normal snowfall for this area is 200-250 inches per year. They average only 39 days a year which are totally frost free!
Jenny Lake Sign
