Norris Geyser Basin (continued) Sunburned Cyanobacteria in hot water runoff
Sulfer deposits in rocks
Cinder Pool Cinder Pool is one of two such unique geological features in the world where heated water develops below a layer of native boiling sulfur. The water percolates through the sulfur layer forming hollow spheres of sulfur oxide. These black "Cinders" discharge at the surface of the pool. They make "snap, crackle, pop" sounds as they emerge at the surface of the pool. They cover the pool surface eventually, the pool builds up pressure at the surface, the cinders then are flowed off the pool onto the surrounding soil, and the process begins again. The other such Cinder Pool and processes is located in Japan!!
Here you can see the "cinders" which are hollow spheres of sulfur oxides.
